believe it or not, but the modern day soccer owes its origin to the barbarous war mongering nature of human beings.

There is no proper documentation that can state the date and place of origination of the most popular modern day sportSoccer. However, depending on the socio-historical facts and data we can assume that some type of a ball game was played somewhere in this planet for at least over 3000years now.

The earliest evidence of soccer was found in Kyoto, Japan where a field marked to play a ball-kicking game was found.

There is also proper documentation that supports the fact that the Chinese military forces around 2nd and 3rd century BC (Han Dynasty) played a game that involved kicking a ball into a small net. This was then an essential skill building exercise for the armed forces.

Historical evidence also shows that some form of soccer was played also by the Greeks and the Romans, however, the primitive form involved a larger team on each side. At times the team strength would go up even to around 27 people on each side. The Greeks were playing four different forms of the ball game, namely "Episkyros", "Ourania", "Pheninda" and "Keritizein". Episkyros was the closest to football. In this 2 equally numbered teams, would try to throw the ball over the heads of the other team. There was a white line between the teams and another white line behind each team. Teams would change the ball often until one of the team is forced behind the line at their end.

The first approach to regularize and give a civilized form to this game was taken by the famous Eton College of England in 1815 when they established a set of rules for the games. These rules were accepted by the other schools, colleges and universities. Later, in 1848, these rules were further standardized and a new version was adopted by all the schools, college and universities. This new set of rules was known as the Cambridge Rules.

At this stage, there were actually two set of rules that were being followed in this game. Some organizations preferred to follow the rules of the Rugby School, that allowed tripping, kicking and carrying the ball, whereas the Cambridge rules prohibited all this methods.

In October, 1863, The Football association was formed, when eleven London schools and clubs came together to establish a single set of rules to administer any football match that were to be played among them. On 8 December 1863, association Football and Rugby Football finally split onto two different organizations.

Trail running is quickly becoming one of the most popular sports in the outdoor industry. Barely recognized as a sport a few years ago, trail running was viewed as a speedy alternative to hiking. However, with the emergence of ultra-distance running on trails the prestige that comes with winning a trail race has increased tremendously. As trail running becomes more mainstream, it is important that you as a runner remember a few crucial bits of nutritional information that will make any trail run all the more enjoyable.

Hydration: The Key to Performance

Proper hydration is at the forefront of any activity you plan to participate in. If your body is in motion, then you need to make sure that you are hydrated. Water is essential to the human body. 60-70% of our body mass is water, up to 90% of our brain mass is water, and up to 75% of muscle tissue is comprised of water. Water is also the main component of blood the important carrier of glucose, oxygen and other nutrients. In general, your body loses 64-80 ounces of water daily through urine, feces, sweat, skin, and expired air. This water needs to be replaced by daily fluid consumption of 64-80 ounces. Another, albeit much less scientific, way to determine daily fluid requirements is to evaluate your urine. Dark and concentrated urine is indicative of inadequate fluid intake. Urine should be pale yellow to clear, and copious. Trail running is a four-season sport. You can run in practically any weather condition, on virtually any terrain.

In warm weather, the only way to ensure that you will not become dehydrated is to stop it before it happens. When you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. That is why it is important to properly hydrate before any event. The clich eight glasses a day does not take into account your standard active athlete. If you are training in the heat, you need not worry about how many glasses you are drinking but rather concentrate on drinking periodically throughout the day. Keep a water bottle close to you at all times and sip from it continuously. This will ensure that your cells with be maximally hydrated at the start of any workout. Although water is great to be drinking if you are planning on sitting still all day, if you are active you should be hydrating with a carbohydrate solution, preferably one with anywhere between 6-8% carbohydrates. This will ensure that your body not only gets the hydration it craves but also that it maintains the right amount of electrolytes. during the trail run itself, focus on continuing to sip continuously from your water bottle. It is best if you can either run with a handheld water bottle or find a comfortable hydration pack. Weigh yourself before and after a hot weather workout to ensure proper rehydration. For every pound that you lose while running, rehydrate with 24oz of liquid or 150% of your total water loss.

In the cold you need to remember that you still have to hydrate. Your hydration needs in cool weather are just as important as in hot weather. You will not feel like you need to drink as much liquid; however, you still need to avoid becoming dehydrated. While you wont be losing as much liquid through perspiration, you still need to have liquid on hand, especially if you plan to run over thirty minutes. Try to drink every ten to fifteen minutes to ensure that you avoid becoming thirsty.

Choosing the right liquid is critical to your hydrating success. Find a carbohydrate drink that will sit well with your stomach and budget. If you are racing, train with the drink that will be provided on the course, since that will be what you will drinking once you get out there. Find an electrolyte containing beverages with 4% to 8% carbohydrate. Drinking a 10% carbohydrate solution can potentially cause gastrointestinal issues, which can be considerably uncomfortable regardless if you are training or racing. The high sugar content can slow the release of fluids into your intestine and delay the rate of absorption. With a 4-8% combination of carbohydrates your body is able to absorb a proper balance of electrolytes which is recommended for any events lasting longer than an hour. Though beverages with caffeine provide hydration, they are not the best choice as excessive caffeine consumption may interfere with sleep patterns and will have a mild diuretic effect. Try to limit your intake of these liquids throughout the day especially if you are planning on a long distance trail run.

Get the Gear: Finding the Right Hydration system

If you are just getting into trail running you need to find the hydration system that will work best for you. This can take time and will only improve with experience, so be patient. For a long distance training trail run, find a hydration system that is lightweight, comfortable and will be able to carry enough liquid to meet your hydration needs. Personally, I prefer to run with handheld water bottles, because holding the water bottles reminds me of the need to drink. If I run with a hydration pack, I find myself becoming consumed in the run and forgetting to drink. However, by holding the bottles I have a constant reminder that I need to stay hydrated. The only downside to carrying water bottles is that you have something in your hands. This can become a problem on a long distance run when your body becomes fatigued and the last thing you want to do is hold onto a multi-pound water bottle. That is why running with a pack can be an advantage.

In the beginning, hydration packs were cumbersome and not worth the discomfort that they brought. However, in recent years that has changed as the outdoor industry has consistently improved on the lightweight, comfortable hydration pack. In cool weather conditions a pack is ideal. When you first start out running more than likely you will be wearing excess clothing. Shedding a few layers with no where to stash them can be a problem; however, with a pack you can easily stuff them away. Then if the weather turns malo you can just pull them back out. Also, since more than likely you will not be drinking as much liquid you can better regulate how much liquid you are carrying by how much fluid you put into the bladder. If you enjoy running with a hydration pack in warm weather, look for one that will be able to keep your back cool. The main problem I found with early hydration packs was that they trapped the heat expelled off your back. I found myself loosing an enormous amount of liquid from the sweat caused by the rubbing of the hydration pack and my back. Either choose a hydration pack like the Patagonia Houdini Hydration Pack that has mesh shoulder straps and an air flow system or use a lumbar pack like the CamelBak Alterra Hydration Pack to remain cool and hydrated in the hottest of conditions.

If you are planning on running over an hour then you need to make sure that you take into account your nutritional needs as well as hydration needs. Your body size and the activities you choose will determine how many calories you need to consume while exercising. Typically, most experts recommend that athletes eat anywhere from 100 to 150 calories per hour to maintain proper glycolic and caloric balances. Regardless of what type of food or gel you use for fuel delivery, carbohydrates remain your best source of energy for training and racing. Remember not to shun real food for synthetic food options. The ancient Indian sages were involved in intensive study and research into the nutritional value of food and one of the upshots of this was that they divided food into three categories which became known as Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic.

Tamasic food can be said to be in the lowest category as far as its food value is concerned and it is classed as being without quality prana (life energy).

Rajasic food is stimulating, possesses considerable prana and forms a significant percentage of the average persons diet.

Sattvic food however, is the only category that fulfills the ideal food of the Vedic teachings. It comprises foods that are fresh and natural, and contain a high pranic or life content. Some examples are fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables.

The teachings encourage an adherence, in the main, to the Sattvic foods, balanced by a percentage of the Rajasic class, but an abstinence from foods that are classed as Tamasic; in that have little or no prana.

These ancient principles are still adhered to today and it has been amply demonstrated by contemporary food scientists at the Yogic Umachal hospital in india that the ancient teachings are, in fact, quite valid.

Although modified to some extent, a simple parallel can be seen in the conclusions of western nutritionists who recommend that people:

avoid lowest grade foods; those that are commercially produced using artificial flavorings, colorings and that contain chemical preservatives and additives

eat limited quantities of rich, highly spiced, highly processed and cooked food, as well as butter, cheese, eggs, chocolate, confectionery and other foods containing high levels of processed cane and beet sugar, and

ensure that a high percentage of the diet should consist of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts and grains

The important difference is that modern diets still include great quantities of meats of all kinds. These are totally excluded in the Yoga diet for several reasons.

The traditional Yogic rule of nutrition excludes them as being devoid of life energy or pranathey are in fact classed as dead foods

Meats in quantity cause acidity and leave deposits of toxins in the blood that can cause arthritis and other diseases, depending upon the health of the animal whose flesh was consumed, and

The good news for Nintendo Wii gamers is that regardless of which Nintendo Wii mod chip you buy - you'll have all the basics with each one. You will be able to play all Nintendo Wii Backup games (on dvd-R or DVD+R discs) and can use 8cm or 12cm DVD discs. You will also be able to play all Gamecube Backup games, import games as well as Gamecube Homebrew games. It really gets down to installation of the Nintendo Wii Mod chip and the features and functions, and future upgrade options of each Wii mod chip.

The WiiKey chip does however also require that you solder 4 wires to the specified places on the Wii motherboard. And finally, the last Nintendo Wii mod chip (often claimed to be the very FIRST Nintendo Wii Modchip) is the only chip in this round up that actually does not require any wires at all.

CycloWiz Nintendo Wii Mod chips The major advatange, or selling feature of the CycloWiz Nintendo Wii mod chip is in how it's installed. Unlike the other 2 mod chips in this round up, the CycloWiz actually does not require you to solder any wires to the Wii mainboard. In fact, much like the WiiKey, you'll simply use Quick Solder pads which are strategically placed in the design of the CycloWiz to enable you to simply position the chip on the Nintendo Wii Mainboard, and gently put some solder onto the points. This will make the required connections, and the chip will simply be installed, with absolutely no need figure out where wires are to be soldered or whether or not you've got the right type of wires, etc... Again, I want to stress that firmware updates may not at all be required and perhaps may not come for some time. Gym equipment usually has hand censors that will tell you what your heart rate is at, so that you can maintain a good level of intensity throughout your workout. This type of workout is very effective and you will only need to do it for 15 - 20 minutes at a time. An example of interval training is to run for 3 minutes and walk briskly for 2 minutes. You continue this cycle until your workout is complete (don't forget to warm up!). This type of workout is great for preventing the boredom that can come with steady state cardio and boosts fat lose. Interval training is also good for improving you're cardiovascular abilities and preventing the muscle loss that can come with regular cardio. Remember that you should always be changing the duration of how long you are running and walking to keep your body guessing. This type of cardio can be done on virtually any cardio machine, and also outdoors.

What ever happened to that game console we used to call the Sega Dreamcast? Why did it suddenly disappear after 2 years of production? Was the government involved in brainwashing our minds like in George Orwells 1984? All these questions will be answered as I investigate the Dreamcast's devastating decline.

Introduction

In the beginning it was good. Sega released a solid piece of hardware called the dreamcast that was easy to develop games for and kicked the competition's rear ends in terms of graphics and sound. It entered the market with a strong start, selling quite well upon its release. Although the dreamcast lacked 3rd party support, Sega's games were aplenty and the very best in quality. Sega seemed to be heading in the right direction, but two years later the company abruptly discontinued the dreamcast.

There were 3 main causes to the downfall of the dreamcast.

1. Piracy Issues

The dreamcast had a serious hardware flaw which gave it the ability to play copied games and downloaded ones from the internet. Many people chose to play the pirated versions of the games rather than shell out $40-$50 at a local gaming store for the real thing. As a result, Sega was losing money on the games that its developers had spent hours designing. I call that a sad waste of talent.

2. Loss of Faith in Sega Brand

Before the dreamcast, there was the Sega Saturn, an absolute failure. At that time, Sega was releasing new add-ons and consoles so often that nobody wanted to buy the Saturn because they feared Sega would introduce a new console and cut off game development with the current one. They were right. Sega soon released the dreamcast and rather than gain customers, it gained a bad reputation. The media attacked Sega and denounced the dreamcast with suspicions and doubts. The trust that Sega had once set up was now broken and people lost faith in Segas ability to produce game systems.

3. Overhype of the ps2

The #1 selling game console in 1999 was the Sony PSOne, so naturally people were hyped up about ps2. I definitely was. ps2 was the buzz in the gaming industry. It was said to have more superior graphics, sound, and games than any of the consoles at the time. Meanwhile, the dreamcast was already out in stores and shared similar hardware specs as the ps2, which would not be released until one year later. It may well be that soda pop is mankinds worst ever discovery. US companies spend $700 million or more per year on media advertising for soda pop per year, and hundreds of millions on other promotional activities. They even make contracts with your public school systems to sell soda pop in the halls. Parents and educators have recently, however, been making a concerted attempt to reign in that form of merchandising. Several states have banned at least the non-diet soft drinks from some or all schools, but that could be more of a step backward than a step forward. It does cut the calories, and diet soda has been proven to not quench hunger by some studies, again done at the University of california. Your kids will not do much better on diet soda, but at least theyll be more prone to eating or drinking something elseunless they dont. diet soda is still full of those same acids they mentioned, and have no sugar in them to help them along in your digestive cramp. They can cause nausea, diarrhea and constipation, not to mention those same allergic reactions, including asthma, as regular soda does. diet soda alone is not an easy way out.

Nonetheless, the Center for Science in the Public Interest makes these recommendations: that governments should require chain restaurants to declare the calorie content of soft drinks and all other items on menus and menu boards; the Food and Drug Administration has been told by them to require labels on non-diet soft drinks to state that frequent consumption of sugar-laden drinks promotes obesity, diabetes, tooth decay, osteoporosis and other health problems; governments should provide water fountains in schools, government buildings, parks and other public places; school systems and other organizations, and all those organizations which cater to children should stop selling soft drinks, candy and junk foods in hallways, shops and cafeterias.

Until this month of September, 2005, there was no hard and clear evidence through science that soda itself alone can make kids fatter. But reporting in The Lancet, a British medical journal, a team of Harvard researchers had found the first evidence absolutely linking soda pop drinking to childhood obesity. Twelve year olds who drink soft drinks regularly are far more likely to become or to be obese than those who dont.

Obesity experts at Harvard found this to be highly important and spent 19 months following the children rather than simply following them around for a week or so like many studies gone before have done. Statistically through many similar studies its been found to be more important to use a lengthy study than a sporadic or shorter study. And in this study, it was found that schoolchildren consume who drink pop take in some 200 calories per day more than children who usually dont. It supports the notion that long-term obesity is an ingrained behavior, starting in childhood, and that we dont compensate well for calories in liquid. In short, water or milk is simply better.

In fact, the answer to this problem is patently obvious: drink water, and more water. milk is good, but you should always remember that its a food, and not that useful for thirst purposes. Whole milk especially is high in both fat and calories, so go easy on the milk. Water, on the other hand, has no calories and is the very thing you should drink to quench your thirst. You should drink a minimum of six eight-ounce glasses of water per day, say all the experts who have studied this subject. And water, without adding on any calories, can take the edge off your hunger and help you fill up. A good time to drink a glass of water is just before a big, calorie laden meal; it will slow you down. One strategy that works is to always carry a bottle of fresh, clean water with you, and to take sips from it frequently. This also helps prevent daily dehydration, which can be exacerbated by overconsumption of alcohol, soda pop and coffee or tea, which all produce excess thirst.

A small daily consumption of coffee and/or tea is fine, as long as you dont add lots of sugar to your caffeinated or decaffeinated beverage. Both coffee and tea contain antioxidants, which are anti-cancer agents benefiting your overall health. Green tea has been discovered to have terrific health benefits, less caffeine, and to boost your metabolism, helping you to burn fat. You can even drink it before you go to bed, calming hunger cravings for that midnight snack which might cause you to gain weight. But avoid the designer drinks you find at Starbucks and other such shops which are loaded with high amounts of milk fat and sugar. If you must have your latte, put cinnamon in it, which helps slow down your absorption of sugar--and which also has no calories and tastes delicious. And add honey or turbinado sugar and low-fat milk to your drink.

Although fruit juices are not the best bet to quench your hunger and your thirst, as they contain too high of amounts of insulin-raising sugars, vegetable juices such as V-8, Welchs, and Heinz tomato juice are fine, as they are both low in calories and do not have a high sugar concentration. However, dont depend on them too heavily, as they are high in salt content, which again like soda pop, alcohol and caffeinated beverages make you thirstier. Too high of salt intake is also associated with major health problems. And you should not substitute veggie juices for fresh fruits and vegetable, which contain fibers and other nutrients than you will find in the juices from them. In fact, if you eat fresh fruit and vegetables in large quantities, they will help you with your thirst problem and fill you up with proper food and nutrients as well. Have a slice of watermelon instead of a beer. Fruits and veggies will help quench your thirst, as well as drinking plenty of water.

But soda pop has been shown to make you thirstier, and that does lead to the further drinking of it as you attempt to quench your thirst. Something about the combination of chemicals in many soda pops dries out people. So then they reach for another can of soda, thus becoming committed to a vicious cycle. And that greatly increases their calorie intake, especially since pop today is now coming supersized as well, filling up those larger and larger plastic single-serve looking bottles. It might not be a bad idea to try to follow the serving suggestion, at least, on the bottle. And it might be a better idea to drink either soda pop or alcohol of any kind from a plastic or glass bottle than an aluminum can, as the aluminum has been shown to seep into the can. This may have something to do with the formation of Alzheimer plaques in the human brain, as aluminum may be a cause of Alzheimers disease, a dreadful illness that causes people to forget everyone and everything that holds any meaning whatsoever in their lives.

Is it worth it, to worship a can of a kids drink that was invented as a snake oil remedy in a poor mans fireplace by bubbling a concoction of chemicals together that tasted good? He only intended to sell it in small amounts to adults as a tonic, as it did seem to settle peoples stomachs, and stimulate them. Thats because original formula Cokes main ingredient was cocaine, not caffeine, but eventually cocaine became illegal. Caffeine and alcohol are both heavily addictive drugs which have been overly promoted as beverages. Water is not. Water is good for you, where caffeine and alcohol can actually hurt your body and eventually cause long-term health problems leading to great pain and death.

The Coca-Cola Company finally removed cocaine from its product. Perhaps someday, we should follow suit on caffeine and alcohol. But until that day ever comes, we are stuck having to police ourselves and our children. Please do it wisely.

Different airlines and airports have different standards for how they process luggage. Although many new rules have been put into effect due to recent world events, some things remain the same. All luggage, regardless of its owner, size, shape or seeming safety is subject to search. This rule is more of a deterrent than anything else. If luggage is more likely to be searched without cause, it is less likely that possibly offensive or dangerous items might be placed in the luggage for travel. Furthermore, airlines usually have a policy that they can refuse luggage, without warning, for a variety of reasons including but not limited to size, weight, character or condition.

The condition can be particularly important. Well made luggage that looks sturdy will have a better chance of making it through a flight than luggage in a questionable condition. They will also refuse luggage if the inclusion of the luggage would harm or inconvenience other paying customers aboard the flight. There is usually a luggage cut-off time. This is the time at which luggage is no longer allowed onto the aircraft or into checking. This is because the luggage must be loaded within a certain period of time prior to the aircraft taking off. This cut-off time is usually 40 to 60 minutes prior to departure. International flights are usually on the higher end of the spectrum, time-wise.

If a customer is unable to check the luggage within the amount of time allotted they run the risk of having their luggage and sometimes they placed on another flight out. If this causes additional expense to the passenger, the airline will rarely deem themselves responsible for this additional expense and the expense will fall to the customer. Checked luggage is fitted with luggage tags. These tags are meant to identify the luggage in order to get it onto the correct flight and to insure, should the luggage be lost, that it can be returned to the correct passenger. The passenger should remove this tag after the trip as future trips may be confusing if the luggage in question has multiple tags. after the luggage is tagged and checked in it is placed on a conveyer belt and sent towards the loading area where it will be put into the belly of the place. 4 Tips On How To Not Quit Your Next Exercise Program

The sad part is that exercise is actually easier than most people imagine it to be. It's more fun too! I'll talk more on that at the end of this article. In the meantime, the problem is, that when most people begin an exercise program, they seem predestined, in most cases, to fail.

The reasons for this are simple, but they are still strong enough to turn most people off from exercise after only a short time on the program. However, as with many other things, knowing what to expect and what the pitfalls are is a good way to avoid falling off the exercise wagon With that in mind, let's take a quick look at a few things that tend to nip exercise programs in the bud.

1. Ignorance: The truth is that everyone is ignorant at some phase of any new endeavor. While it is not necessary to be a rocket scientist to learn about exercise, there still IS A GREAT DEAL TO learn. If you do not know what exercise does or how it works, it is easy to make errors in judgment which can put you on the slippery slope to failure. With exercise, like anything else, there will be a learning curve, and you might not get it right at first. In fact, even experienced exercisers, bodybuilders, weightlifters, gymnasts, golfers and others involved in physical activity are constantly learning new things and improving their chosen activities as a result.

SOLUTION: Give yourself some learning time, and take advantage of that time to actually try to learn a little about exercise...like you're doing right now!

2. Too much Too Fast: It is easy to understand that a person may be ignorant of certain facts about exercise, but a little harder to understand that a person may be ignorant of their own body. However, when it comes to any new activity or job we often have no real concept of what to expect until we have been at it for a while. Normally, if you touch a hot stove, you get a pretty fast message that you had better move your hand. With exercise, this works two possible ways:

** Way Too much Too Fast: This one is easy to understand. You overdo it (often without realizing it), and the next day you feel like what my mom used to call H - E - double L! Your body aches, or worse, you can hardly move some part of your body. Sometimes the message comes during the workout itself. Maybe it's an injury or maybe pain. Sometimes it may be a bad feeling ranging from "just not feeling well" to "sick" to even "scared" if your heart seems to be acting funny or you feel faint. It's easy to see why someone who feels so bad as a result of exercising may get the urge not to do it any more. Often, the excuse is: I need to lay off for a couple of days until I feel better. Eventually, you feel better, but for some strange reason, you sort of "forget" to start exercising again. After that experience, who can blame you?

** A Little Too much And/Or A Little Too Fast: Not quite as bad as the situation above, this can still put the kibosh on your exercise plans. Maybe there's no pain, or very little pain, and you can't actually put your finger on anything which makes you feel that you should not continue with your exercise program. However, as the days pass, it becomes harder to do your workout, and not just for physical reasons. You begin to dread it or start making excuses to skip "just this workout". What is happening is that you are probably going too fast or trying to do too much. Your body is a fantastic creation. It can realize that things aren't right and will send you the messages one way or the other.

SOLUTION: Once you realize what's happening, just back off. If you are weightlifting, for example, you can cut the weight back, or decrease repetitions. If you are walking, you can slow down for a while or decrease your distance. What is happening is that your body, which has been unexercised for so long, needs time not only to deal with the exercise itself, but also needs time and resources to renovate its systems and streamline procedures so that it can effectively help you out. For example, your body can be trying to build new blood vessels, increase red blood cells, and update its ability to dispose of waste generated by exercise while it is trying to deal with the exercise and its aftermath as well. This can overwhelm an out-of-condition body which is suddenly asked to meet the requirements of a new exercise program.

Cutting back to allow your body to catch up is NOT failure. It is a sensible decision which may be exactly what is needed to help you stay on your exercise program. You are still exercising, and will reap the benefits. Once your body catches up, you can proceed at a faster pace. Many an individual began their path to being able to eventually run a marathon by walking out to the mailbox, then down to the corner, and eventually around the block. Don't worry, if you stick with it, you will get there.

3. Unrealistic Expectations: Along with ignorance comes unrealistic expectations. After all, how can you honestly have any idea what to expect if you have never done this before? It is a normal human tendency to want to be able to see results. It IS HARD to keep on doing your exercise program if you cannot see that the exercise is working. Unfortunately, a lot of what occurs with exercise, especially with a new program, happens inside where it cannot be seen.

SOLUTION: Exercise is KNOWN to work, whether for overall fitness and health, or for specific goals such as weight loss or performance in an activity such as golf or wrestling. This is something you will simply have to accept, but it has been demonstrated in study after study. However, always remember that once you have achieved the ability to exercise at a certain level, your body will stabilize and no new changes will occur until you crank it up a bit. You will eventually, once your body has accepted the fact of this new lifestyle, have to walk a little farther, or a little faster, or lift a heavier weight. However, exceeding your body's ability to keep up can make you start to regret exercising again.

4. The Wrong Exercise program: There are a lot of different ways to exercise, and, while each one is good in its own way, none is perfect. Also, since each of us is different, what I like may not be what you like. This is why I do NOT recommend MY FAVORITE EXERCISE program to anyone. While many people would be happy swimming, biking, or hiking, many would also balk at having to lift weights and walk on a treadmill staring at a wall for 45 minutes, four days a week...plus other little exercise goodies interspersed throughout off days. Personally, I love the few minutes of introspective solitude and concentration, but many people need the company of others.

SOLUTION: Look around and see what works for you. Remember, however, you should try to do a mix of strength training AND some cardio (aerobic) exercise each week. Strength training is generally done with free weights such as dumbbells or barbells, or with some sort of exercise machine capable of providing progressive resistance. You don't have to toss around 100 lb weights to get the benefits of this sort of training, either. In fact, start with very low weights and just concentrate on exercising regularly and doing each repetition of each exercise through a full range of motion. If you cannot move the weight smoothly through the required repetitions or if you experience some of the negative mental or physical problems mentioned earlier, you are probably trying to do too much too fast.

I hope you can see from this short discussion that exercise need not be as hard as you think. Of course, you will have to work hard, sweat a little, and occasionally a sore muscle might crop up. However, you DO NOT need to do the exercises you see in books at the intensity or with the weights or resistances that the person in the picture is using. I remember the first book on bodybuilding I ever tried to follow. I was a skinny sixteen year old kid (Oh! To be able to say that again.) and I tried to use the weights the book recommended. I could not keep up, and after a few workouts, the weights went under the bed until I sold them to a friend for $10 several years later!

At the start of this article, I mentioned that I would talk about exercise being fun.

When you first start to exercise, and you are trying to find the right exercise program, what weight to use, how long to exercise, and are coping with the sore muscle or uncooperative schedule, or you cannot really see any visible results, exercise can seem to be an unrewarding chore. However, at first you will also notice a certain small thrill at the knowledge that you have made the decision to take the baby steps which can lead to a lifetime of health and fitness. Unfortunately, as the days go by, that thrill may begin to fade, so when you first feel it, concentrate on it and try to feel it to the core of your being. Write down the hopes and dreams you have for this exercise program and take that paper out and re-read all it has to say and remember how it felt to know that you had made that commitment to yourself, your family, your health, your happiness, and your future.

If you continue to exercise regularly and conscientiously, slowly challenging your body to new levels of achievement, you will begin to notice not only outward changes as the exercise's actions begin to remold your body, but you will begin to feel an improvement inside as well. You will feel healthier, more cheerful, more ready to take on life's challenges and have fun with life's opportunities. Not only will you be stronger and more agile and have greater endurance, but your body will actually begin to manufacture chemicals internally which will make you feel better. Your personal confidence in your ability to face new responsibilities or to change the direction of your life will increase. You will be less prone to illness, and you will begin to realize that you are protecting yourself to some extent against future illnesses and the degenerative effects of growing older.

I am 62 and can attest to that last statement.

1. The majority of Alexander teachers are women. So what if F.M. Alexander was a man and, to be precise, a mans man? A rugged individualist with an enduring love of horses and horse racing, he developed his Technique because it was his nature to be proactive and contribute to the solution of his health problems. Regrettably, he also had his sensitive, intuitive side, and this is shared by a lot of women (and men) who have since trained in his Technique.

2. Alexander teachers are vegetarians who do yoga and want to save the planet. As a breed, AT teachers are socially responsible. Still, there are plenty of red meat eaters among them. There are also sports people, martial artists, musicians, actors, body builders, computer nerds Overall, theyre rather like the rest of the population. (They can even be sexist at times!!!.) But theyre committed to helping people maximise their sense of physical wholeness and well-being.

3. Real men prefer to tough things out. Why, when some professional output could make it so much easier for them to achieve what they want? But then, real men dont go to the doctor. In reality, the AT is not a therapy, it is a progressive re-education in the art of activity without injury. It is practised one to one, with a teacher who is sensitive to the pupils individual make-up. An AT teacher is attuned to the pupils body and encourages the pupil to become increasingly aware of how they can maximise their fitness activities while protecting their body from wear and tear.

7. You cant work off your aggression that way. Absolutely right, but it could help you reduce it, more or less spontaneously over time. The AT reduces stress levels and can make you feel good about yourself. It teaches you how to undo muscular tension. The knock-on effect is that physical the freeing up makes most people able to divest themselves of a lot of psychological tensions, surprisingly easily.

8. It could involve deferring to your partners superior judgement. There are plenty of men who slump in an armchair and say to their partner: Your postures terrible. You really should do something about it. They may even be right. But The Little woman cant be expected to know whats good for you. She might have problems, but youre fine just the way you are. different rules apply.

9. It could make you look better. Sure, youre committed to going to the gym and working out. The Alexander Technique wont give you a six pack, but it will get you looking taller, straighter and broader across the shoulders, even leaner; so you can get a huge return on a very small outlay of effort.

10. You cant get up a sweat doing it. Unfortunately you wont need a good shower; so it wont result in extra bear hugs for your partner. Sad because sweaty men always seem to be affectionate men. Sony hopes that they will transfer their talents and enthusiasm to the PlayStation 3. microsoft typically takes a much less enthusiastic view of user-created content, and the xbox has very limited capacity in that regard- at least in our many of our reviews.

The xbox and the PlayStation 3 both have online services, but these are quite different in style. With the xbox, everything is tied closely into the microsoft empire through the medium of xbox live. Sony has taken a more hands-off approach, and it seems there will be the option for gamers to choose one of several online services. It will be possible to play tournaments online through the PlayStation 3.

Who will win this battle? In the short term, the PlayStation 3 will likely win the Christmas sales battle - provided Sony can ship enough units to keep up with demand. But that is simply because they are the new kid on the block. In the longer term, expect sales of the two consoles to be fairly similar - and impressively high in both cases, perhaps between 20 million and 30 million each over the next few years. Such liberalisation comes the risk of these new entrants conducting less than ethical business practises that were impossible for a state controlled monopoly; and so with liberalisation comes a new wave of regulation.

A fact of the telecom's industry is that all new entrants have had to resell all or part of the incumbent monopolys infrastructure. However, by using the Internet and the unbundled local broadband loop, VoIP is a technology that will allow a new breed of telecom operator that has no recall to the incumbent monopoly other than to interconnect with it to pass traffic between each other.

VoIP, therefore has attracted the attention of regulators, and from a European-wide perspective, the issue is that this attention varies from country to country. Each National Regulatory Authority has a different view. According to a recent survey conducted by networking technology company Spirent Communications, the international Engineering Consortium and Total telecom magazine, twenty per cent of European telecoms executives said that government regulation is the biggest threat to VoIP, meanwhile 84 per cent believe the technology is ready for widespread deployment.

According to a Gartner report in January 2006, no common approach has so far been adopted among National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) for the delivery of voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) across Europe. In some countries, the service is treated as being equivalent to a regular circuit-switched telephone connection, while in others, it is considered more as a data service. Until a common approach is implemented, VoIP service providers will be unable to deliver common service platforms across multiple countries, removing one of the key opportunities enabled by the underlying technology that of cross-national competition.

The survey found that NRAs have resisted developing specific policies or regulations concerning VoIP. While no one has an appetite to aggressively regulate this technology, changes will need to happen to accommodate the rapid move in consumer and business use patterns. Gartner believes that with VoIP and other IP-enabled or electronic communications service (ECS) maturing, end users are often unaware that protection and statutory rights are not the same with VoIP services as for switched voice.

Therefore, Gartner concludes, VoIP will force broad regulatory changes, because voice telephony is being redefined. IP not only affects the pricing of voice services, but also changes the way voice services and features are ordered, provisioned, delivered, marketed and regulated. As a result, the inevitable regulatory changes will add cost to the provisioning of IP-enabled services, thus closing the end-user price advantage currently enjoyed by VoIP services.

As regards the UK market specifically, under the Communications Act of 2003 Ofcoms primary regulatory control on the VoIP market is to police a code of conduct for providers of a pubic telephony service over whatever technology to consumers and small business. (As for big business, caveat emptor.) This code of practise deals with the business process as opposed to the underlying technology and, as far as the consumer is concerned, is all that is required.

To quote from Clause 52 of The Act itself:

(2) Those matters are-
(a) the handling of complaints made to public communications providers by any of their domestic and small business customers;
(b) the resolution of disputes between such providers and any of their domestic and small business customers;
(c) the provision of remedies and redress in respect of matters that form the subject-matter of such complaints or disputes;
(d) the information about service standards and about the rights of domestic and small business customers that is to be made available to those customers by public communications providers;
(e) any other matter appearing to OFCOM to be necessary for securing effective protection for the domestic and small business customers of such providers.

Theory of the Kleshas: a Yogic Understanding of Human Suffering (and Liberation!)

One of the foundational texts of the yoga Tradition is Patanjalis yoga Sutras. It is here (among other places) that the Yogic understanding of the origins of human suffering (and Liberation) is offered in the form of what is know as the Theory of the Kleshas.

According to Patanjali, human suffering has its origin in Avidya (the first Klesa), the ignorance that arises when the soul in its descent into matter forgets its divine origin. This forgetting gives rise to the second Klesa, Asmita, or the identification of the soul with its vehicles (the various bodies, including the most dense, or physical, that we inhabit in our journey through manifestation). This false identification operates through the mechanism of the third and fourth Klesas, Raga and Dvesa, desire and fear. And it is here that we see the basic mechanism through which our bodyminds (our thoughts, words, & actions) operate dualistically . . . for desire/fear (Raga/Dvesa) is simply the most basic of the polarities, or sets of opposites, which define the terrain of human existence in its conditioned state. The fifth Klesa is Abhinivesha, or the desire (of the body/vehicle or ego) for its life, i.e. the desire to perpetuate, and fear of losing, its (illusory) existence. This fifth Klesa defines the basic obstacle to reversing this process (the necessary first step for entering the path to Liberation), namely the attachment we have to the life of the structure created by the various polarities, whose dissolution we experience as death.

So what, then, is the solution? How does one reverse this process, dissolve the polarities, re-member ones Svarupa, or True Nature and in the process activate a True Form, i.e. a set of vehicles enlivened by Virtues/Deities/geometries that grow out of and are nourished by the uninterrupted remembrance of their divine origin (by the radiant Core of our Being, whose yogic metaphor is the Shushumna Nadi)? Now Patanjali, of course, has an answer (which he lays out in the remainder of The yoga Sutras ~ check it out!), as do countless other Saints, Sages and Teachers from various wisdom traditions.

The solution Ive chosen to work with, in my own practice, is a distillation of sorts, from the wellspring of these Eastern traditions, of a set of techniques designed specifically for the Western mind, based solidly in an understanding that it is in the resolution of opposites that one finds the key to beginning this journey homeward. These polarity processing techniques (a basic technique as well as variations on it designed specifically to address issues at the level of the physical and emotional bodies) were given by spirit to Leslie Temple-Thurston, and are described in her book The Marriage Of spirit. (Please see my previous post describing this method!) Within the realm of yoga asana, Richard Freeman is someone whose teaching method/philosophy is based at least in part upon a resolution of opposites: a practice which looks to marry opposing physical/energetic movements/patterns within the context of specific asanas and in so doing guide awareness continually back into the Shushumna Nadi, and from there allow asanas in their True Forms to express.

DDR2 SDRAM - is a new standard that can boost conventional SDRAM memory up to speeds well over 200MHz and beyond. For example, the ibm ThinkPad T43, thanks to the Sonoma Chipset or platform has 533MHz DDR 2 SDRAM.

This is much better than standard SDRAM which tops out around 150- 166MHz and DDR SDRAM which starts at 200MHz and goes up to around 400MHz.

Video RAM or VRAM is special memory that's used by video adapters on your notebook. This is RAM that is dedicated to handling the visuals and graphics on your notebook computer. This is helpful if you want to play a lot of the latest 3D video games on your notebook.

It is somewhat different from ordinary RAM because it can be accessed by two different devices at once -- enabling screen updates while the video processor processes new data. VRAM provides better graphics but is more expensive than ordinary RAM.

SPEED

You need the fastest computer money can buy. Period!

In order to get the maximum performance from your ultimate gaming computer you must have the fastest speed you can get or afford. Your ultimate PC must be able to process and handle the latest 3D video games with ease. There is nothing as annoying as your PC freezing up in the middle of some major gaming action!

Therefore, your Processor's speed is very important.

CPU or Central Processing Unit, you probably know it as the processor! It's the heart or rather the brain of your notebook or computer. It does all your computer's data processing and applications. Since it does most of the work, it's usually the most expensive part of your notebook computer.

Go with SATA!

SATA is a type of hard drive and stands for serial Advanced Technology Architecture. It was developed by a whole group of companies including Seagate, Intel, Maxtor, Dell and others. SATA transmit data in a serially (in a single stream) as opposed to PATA or parallel ATA which is commonly referred to as an IDE hard drive.

serial ATA hard drives uses less power and are ideal for notebook computers, they are also more advanced than PATA hard drives which uses multipe streams of data -- go figure! But serial Technology carries data in a single stream and unlike PATA is not limited to a particular clock speed, serial transfers data packets almost 30 times faster than parallel.

If top performance in your notebook is one of your goals, go with a SATA hard drive.

Intel Pentium M processors are commonly found in a lot of notebooks and laptops. When in doubt also go with a Pentium!

The speed of microprocessors is measured in MHz.

MHz is short for megahertz. One MHz equals one million cycles per second. The speed of processors, usually known as clock speed, is measured in megahertz (MHz) or these days in gigahertz (GHz).

The higher the clock speed, the faster the computer will process applications and data. It determines how powerful your notebook computer will be. Processor speeds for notebooks or laptops are steadily increasing, not quite the same as a desktop but the gap is narrowing quickly. Speeds of 3.4GHz or more.

Don't forget to ask or check the hard drive speed! A 7,200rpm hard drive is faster than a 4,200rpm or 5,400rpm and usually gives better performance.

DISPLAY

You need the sharpest, brightest display screen or all the above points are moot!

Display quality is also extremely important to your gaming experience. Make sure the resolution and display quality of your notebook computer can handle the graphics for 3D Gaming.

What to keep in mind...

SVGA Resolution. Put simply, computer images are made up of dots, the more dots you have -- the better the image. SVGA Resolution is made up of 800 x 600 dots.

Many notebook computer have XGA (1024 by 768 dots) or SXGA (1280 x 1024 dots), these resolutions will give a higher quality image. WXGA stands for widescreen XGA.

TFT Active Matrix Display. TFT stands for thin-film transistors and many high-end notebook computers use (TFT) active matrix liquid crystal displays.

If display quality is your main reason for buying a notebook, it's best to give it the 'old eye test' and check out the image quality first-hand and decide for yourself. panasonic, Toshiba, sony, and others are known for their high quality monitors -- this quality is also present in their notebook display screens.

1 Hour Golf Practice Plan For Improvement

If you have an hour to put towards improving your golf game here's what I suggest you do to get the most out of this time.

When you arrive at the practice area the very first thing you should do is a few stretches to warm up and you should do this for anything up to 5 minutes or until you're warm.

Once you're loosened up the next thing you should do is to start off hitting a couple of wedge shots and then slowly go through each club in your bag, hitting a few shots with each one until you reach your driver. this should take about 20 minutes. When hitting these shots you should treat each one as though it's a real shot on the golf course. In other words, choose a precise target for each shot and then go through your normal pre-shot routine.

Once you've finished the 20 minutes of hitting full shots you should now practice pitching for 15 minutes and you should do this by hitting shots to all different distances.

What I mean be hitting shots different distances is that you should aim to hit one shot 30 yards, the next one 60 yards, one 75 yards, the next 40 yards etc, etc. And remember to treat each shot, as you would on the course i.e. pick a target and do your pre-shot routine.

Now practice your chipping and bunker play for the next 10 minutes and once again pick a target and go through your pre-shot routine for each shot. It's important that you treat each shot as a real one and not some practice shot that doesn't matter.

When practicing you should get yourself into the mindset that you have on the golf course. That way when you get to the course you'll be better prepared.

You've now got 10 minutes left to work on your putting. And I suggest you practice putts outside of 10 feet, concentrating on your distance control and then end the practice session with some short putts (e.g. 2-3 footers). You should do this so you leave your practice session on a successful note. Here's a summary of your 1 hour practice session:

==> 5 minutes of stretching to get warm.

==> 20 minutes of hitting a couple of shots with each club, starting with a wedge and then moving through your bag of clubs until you reach your driver.

Perimeter weighting and Lie-angle - two other important considerations in the head of the putter are perimeter weighting and lie-angle. Perimeter weighting has to do with the size and shape of the head. If you look, you will see a recess in the center of the head. This recess makes it possible for the weight of the head to be distributed in the toe and the heel which is preferable. The other important factor is the lie-angle in the putter head. This tells you whether the putter is sitting flat against the ground when you hold it. Put yourself in your most comfortable stance and ask the salesman to check this for you. If the putter head is not sitting flat against the ground, you may need to have it adjusted.

Length and grip - two final things to consider in a putter are the length and the grip. The standard length of a putter is thirty-five inches. If you tend to stand upright, you may want it longer. If you bend over a lot, a shorter putter may be necessary. There are also various grips to consider so that a golfer with smaller hands may need a smaller diameter grip and vice versa. Belts are used in a variety of poses, including foward bends, and others that help keep the arms in the correct alignment. These are not usually expensive items, and are worth having on hand. They may allow you to really spend a lot of time in a particular pose.

The most expensive yoga supplies tend to be the very specialized props that can be used in headstand and backbends. They are certainly not crucial, in that you can use cheaper props to gain support in those poses. But they may offer particular benefits that are worth the cost to those than can reasonably afford them.

type II diabetes has now reached epidemic proportions according to the Center for disease Control and that means that there are literally million of people walking around today not just with type II diabetes but, more importantly, with as yet undiagnosed diabetes or diabetes which is in its early stages of development.

This early stage type II diabetes, during which blood sugar levels are elevated but not raised sufficiently to warrant a diagnosis of diabetes, is known as pre-diabetes and, although it may not appear to be of serious concern, studies show that, even at this early stage, permanent long-term damage is being done, especially to the circulatory system and to the heart. Pre-diabetes currently affects over 50 million Americans.

Because pre-diabetes does not present any symptoms, the only way to tell whether or not you are suffering from it is to ask your doctor to test for the presence of the disease. Now, since we cant start testing the whole population this leads to the question of just who is most likely to be at risk from pre-diabetes. Well, in simple terms, if you are over the age of 45 and are overweight (and this mean not just grossly overweight but even modestly overweight) then you should consider asking to be tested. If you are under the age of 45 and are again overweight then testing may also be advisable but, in this case, you should discuss this with your doctor and be guided by him.

Testing is a fairly simple process using one of two standard tests a fasting plasma glucose test or an oral glucose tolerance test. These tests will indicate whether your blood glucose levels are normal, pre-diabetic or diabetic.

The good news is that, if your test reveals that you are pre-diabetic then bringing your blood glucose levels back down to normal and returning your body to a good state of health and forestalling the onset of diabetes is generally quite simple.

Although medication can be used to correct pre-diabetes, tests have shown that a simple program of diet and exercise, combined if necessary with a relatively modest weight loss, can often return blood glucose levels to normal quite quickly and, as long as you maintain a healthy diet and an exercise program, there is no reason at all why your blood glucose level should not remain at normal levels for a considerable period of time. This does not of course mean that you will eliminate the risk of developing type II diabetes altogether, but it does mean that you can delay its onset and prevent early and irreparable damage to your circulatory system and heart.

When we talk about a program of weight loss and exercise here we are not talking about anything too drastic and a reduction in weight of as little as 5% to 10% and a light exercise program of say 30 minutes of brisk walking 5 times a week can be sufficient.

Pre-diabetes is a serious problem which is both easy to detect and simple to treat. All that we are really lacking at the moment is sufficient publicly available pre-diabetic information.
